Orthognathic surgery is an operation in which the bones that carry the face, teeth, and thus both eliminate bite disorders and correct facial proportions can be achieved. Our teeth are arranged on the lower jaw, which we call the mandible, and on the upper jaw, which we call the maxilla. With orthognathic surgery, mobilization is performed to the places where the arcs in which these teeth are sorted should be. It is basically an operation that corrects both biting disorders and corrects facial proportions.

There are some cases of these sequence disorders that occur in the teeth that can only be corrected by orthodontists with wire treatments. In other words, there is no disorder in the position of the lower and upper jaws on which the teeth sit, but there is a problem in the arrangement of the teeth on these bones. Orthodontists can eliminate these disorders with wire treatments they do. But sometimes there is such a situation that the mobilization of the teeth may not resolve the problem of biting and the ratio problems on the face. How should the order of treatment be? Should orthodontic treatment be performed first or orthognathic surgery?
It actually depends a little on what the team prefers. In general, orthodontic treatment first provides the sorting of teeth on the jaw. Then orthognathic surgery is performed in which the bones are mobilized. Since we think that surgery is not suitable for most cases, we usually first glaze the teeth with orthodontic treatment and plan accordingly and apply the surgery.
How will it be after surgery?
Surgery is performed under general anesthesia. After overnight hospitalization, we connect the lower and upper teeth with a tire, depending on the patient’s adaptation and the nature of the procedure. This period ranges from 5 to 10 days. During this period, the patient drinks juicy clean. Then, mealtimes go 1-2 weeks by opening the teeth and swallowing food that has been passed through the Rondo. He is then allowed to grind soft food with his back teeth. After that, he switches to harder foods as he can tolerate. In 1-1, 5 months, he becomes food for hard things.
After surgery, the orthodontist can continue some rütuş treatments. An edema initially occurs in the facial area, but this decreases over time. Half of the initial payment is in the first 3 weeks, 80% is in the first 3 months, while the details are sitting within 6 months.
Will I be able to see what kind of face it will look like after surgery?
