The nose, located in the middle part of the face, is an aesthetic and functional organ that affects the appearance of the face. In nasal plastic surgery, operations such as reducing or enlarging their size, reshaping the tip, removing the bump, and correcting the shapes of the nostrils can be performed.
Since the nose is also a functional organ, it should also be evaluated in terms of function in aesthetic amelilyats. In cases where there is difficulty breathing through the nose, interventions to solve breathing problems (septoplasty, Concha resection…) can be performed together. During surgery, developmental or bump-induced nasal congestion(deviation) can also be corrected.
In order to get the desired result in nose surgeries, the patient will tell his / her doctor about his / her wishes, and he / she will direct your doctor to plan the initiative. It should be at the same point as what the doctor wants to do during surgery and what the patient wants to do. In these interviews, measurements are made on the photo taken from different angles and the most ideal nose model is determined for the patient. These photos taken with a Digital camera are taken into a computer environment and played on it, making the most ideal nose decision with the patient. During the examination, intra-nasal examination is also performed and problems that can make breathing difficult are identified and the surgery plan is made accordingly.
After surgery, you will have a cast on the back of the nose that will be removed a week later. It can be a mild pain that passes easily with medications. To reduce bruising and swelling, you will be asked to lie slightly above your head and apply a cold compress to your eyes.
The aim is to create a nose that is not obvious, without exaggeration, natural, befitting your face.A new nose does not guarantee a new life, but correcting your appearance refreshes your self-confidence.
In your face-to-face meetings with your doctor, a more detailed and extensive interview will be conducted according to your characteristics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I get too excited before surgery?
As with all types of surgery, your excitement and stress will be reduced with the application that we call premedication before nose surgery. By sedating you through an open vein or intramuscular injection, we can take you to the operation more comfortably.
How long is the surgery? Why does that matter?
As I’ve always told my patients, the duration of the operation is the shortest possible time. It’s never a race with time, but it’s my goal to finish as soon as possible. I never have a style of not doing what needs to be done or not being thorough because I’m going to do it in a short time. I think that this type of surgery will happen once in a lifetime and the patient should use all the chances and opportunities. After having already gained the necessary experience, this period is not too extravagant. My average nose surgery time is 2.5 hours. My principle throughout my professional life is that the best surgeon is not the fastest surgeon. The best surgeon is the surgeon who gets the best result as soon as possible.’
What's going to happen to my nose in my surgery?
I try to explain what to do in nose surgeries in a way that my patient technically understands. The more details the patient knows, the less their fears will be. First things that can be done in nose surgery,
- Nasal breathing opening concha surgery and septum surgery can be applied
- Full rhinoplasty can be performed, which concerns both the bone and soft tissues of the nose
- ‘Type rhinoplasty’ can be applied to correct only the end of the nose
More detailed information about these topics can be found both on our site and on other informative sites. But in principle, we do not apply a classic standard procedure to every nose. According to the wishes and needs of the patient, we make the work completely personalized.
Do I have a lot of pain after surgery?
At least one way of pain after nose surgeries depends more on the anesthesia of the hospital where we are operating. For this reason, I do nose aesthetics and other operations at the hospital where I know anesthesiologists. I prefer to work with the best quality hospital and the best quality anesthesiologists I can go to because I care so much about preoperative patient preparation and postoperative pain control. According to your pain threshold, that is, the degree to which you hear pain, pain control is performed by the anesthesiologists of the hospital where I work.
Is there any swelling and bruising after surgery?
After rhinoplasty, there may be swelling and bruising around the nose and nose. We perform operations with the finest tools and with the utmost respect for the tissue to ensure that this condition occurs in the least way possible. In fact, there is a misconception among the public about this. There was less swelling, less bruising, the operation was more successful. Actually, this is incompatible with the facts. Because this swelling and bruising also depends on the structure of the patient. I believe that some interventions that need to be done to get less swelling or less bruising should not be done. I’ll inform my patient in detail about it. If an intervention is to be made regarding the bone structures located in the upper half of the nose, there may be a small amount of swelling and bruising. I’ll tell my patient that this is completely temporary and has nothing to do with the success of the operation. The first 2 days after surgery are swelling and bruising and after this day it decreases rapidly. After the first week, swelling and bruising around the eyes disappear significantly when taking the nasal splint.
Will tampons be put on my nose and prevent me from breathing?
In the past, we used to practice tampons in the nose, which were the most painful for patients. In the first 2 days, the patients experienced the most discomfort in the returns were tampons in the nose and inability to breathe. They also felt pain and discomfort when taking these tampons. And now we don’t put old-fashioned tampons in the nose. By putting silicone splints with holes in the inside, we can support the roof of the nose, and the patient can breathe and the patient can easily clean the inside of the nose. Within 2-7 days after surgery, we can remove nasal splints without any pain or discomfort.
How long does my swelling last after nose surgery?
Depending on the procedure performed in the nose after surgery, edema may occur. The cause of this edema is the healing period of a wound formed on the human body. This process can take 6 months, one year. A significant part of the edema that occurs disappears within the first 2 weeks. The remaining edema continues for up to a year depending on the wound healing process. A patient with surgery can be able to perform all kinds of social activities after an average of 2 weeks, although it varies from person to person.
Do you recommend this operation to every patient who comes to the nose surgery interview?
No. I’m not trying to convince every patient who applies for nasal plastic surgery to have a nose job. After our interview and examination, I do not recommend if the surgery that will happen cannot meet his expectations, or if I believe that the surgery that will be performed will not have an aesthetic contribution to his face. Sometimes patients can come up with a request for nose surgery and recommend a jaw surgery, or a fat injection or some other applications in the entire facial examination performed. In some patients, it also happens that I can give detailed information about the need for not only nose surgery, but also some additional applications. But I don’t think I should operate on every admitted patient. I never do surgery that I don’t believe is necessary.
